I Am Here

The solo project of Sanem Kalfa is an intimate and delicate expression of sounds created with cello, ukulele, voice, electronics. She uses looping in an irregular way: instead of building clear repetitions, she creates layers with different textures, using live recordings of her cello and her voice. There are also songs without effects, featuring only voice, ukulele and cello. The voice takes up a number of different roles like telling stories, singing lyrics and instrumental singing.

Kalfa’s songs are about women, their strength, power and about the love and pain they experience in their lives. Some of the songs draw inspiration from poems by the Turkish poet Sait Maden and combines those poems with Sanem Kalfa’s wide range of vocal vocabulary, electronics, cello and ukulele.
